We are welcoming 2021 with open arms!
Looking back at 2020 it might not have gone as planned, but it wasn't all bad either. In January we got to enjoy a wonderful trip to Paris with many of our friends. We explored the sites and museums, connected with colleagues, and spent hours at the Paris flea markets. We went to Maison & Objet, reviewed some new fabric collections at Deco Off, and even attended an event at the American Ambassador to France's home!
In March, Covid was our new reality and we realized things were going to be different. Our original plans like the High Point Antiques & Design Center spring show would not be moving ahead as expected, so we adjusted. HPADC offered an online version of the Spring show via Chairish which was really fun. We worked alongside many dealers to publish as much of our inventory online as possible and many of us saw record online sales. The antiques industry online has progressed by leaps and bounds this year.
While online sales were keeping us busy, we were starting to miss the events and shows and seeing people in showrooms so we decided to launch our Live at 5 series on Instagram Live. We have had dozens of fabulous guests who have spoken about their careers, how they are handling business during Covid, and planning for the future. It's been a bright spot every week for us and we look forward to continuing these conversations in the new year.
One of the most important things to come out of this year is highlighting and beginning to understand inequity in our industry. This is something that we have found incredibly important to address in our own business. We try to listen to the leaders in BAD Guild and Black Interior Designers Network and to support them. To offer our platform to share their messages. To speak out against racism and prejudice when we see it. And we set a goal of trying to make a ban on the sale of historic hate based materials the global industry standard. We have a long way to go but we are dedicated.
So while 2020 was difficult for a multitude of reasons, it's also shined a light on some important issues. As an industry, I see a bright future for us and I'm looking forward to seeing the innovation that this year's incubation results in.
We are wishing you and your families a joyous and healthy 2021.
